From Monday, 10th, August we will be opening up the waiting room to a limited number of patients who are waiting to see a clinician. We would dearly like to fling the doors open wide and welcome you back in however our role is to keep all service users and staff safe and we take this responsibility seriously.
We respectfully ask patients to arrive no more than 5 minutes before your appointment. Due to social distancing regulations we are only able to allow a maximum of 6 patients to sit in the waiting area at any time, this will be regulated by our staff, if the waiting area is full we shall regretfully have to ask you to wait patiently outside. For this reason if you have a vehicle please be aware that we may ask you to wait in that in order that we can provide a comfortable area for those without a vehicle.
As COVID-19 remains in circulation the surgery shall be continuing to assess patients wishing to see a doctor over the telephone first in order to minimise the risk to yourself, other patients and the staff, if it is helpful the consultation may be taken as a video consultation. However rest assured that the GP will arrange for you to visit the surgery if they feel that this would be of benefit. This is unlikely to change until the Pandemic is over or we have a COVID-19 vaccination.
We have recently created appointment sessions that we call ‘ultra-clean’. These are exclusively for seeing those patients who have been shielding over the last few months in order that we can continue to protect you as much as we possibly can.
The sessions are held first thing in the morning on certain days, apologies if this is a little early for you but we want to see you whilst the building is still fresh from its daily clean. The areas which you will pass through when you enter and the consultation room will have been used only by the clinician that you are seeing and additional cleaning will be taking place during these sessions.
We are well aware that the nation is still at risk from COVID-19, and that there is an increasing belief that we will be facing a second spike over the next few months, please continue helping us to help you by taking the following actions if you are able:
- If you are visiting the surgery please wear a face covering and follow any instructions provided either on signs or from the staff. Please do not present to reception more than 5 minutes prior to your appointment.
- If you are displaying any signs of COVID-19 you do not need to call us unless you feel that you need medical assistance. You can arrange a test for COVID-19 yourself by either calling 119 or visiting www.gov.uk
- Please use your local pharmacy for advice on how to treat the symptoms of coughs, colds, threadworms, head lice, warts, earwax and other minor ailments.
- If you have a question that is non-urgent or need to request a prescription please use the website, if possible. Please be aware however that the only way to book an appointment is by calling us, we are unable to offer this facility through the website.
Finally a big thank you from all of our hard working staff at The Orchard Medical Centre for your support through these unsettling times.
