What is a training practice?
A training practice is a GP surgery that is approved to support the clinical training of doctors and other healthcare professionals. We work closely with local University’s and the NHS training schemes to provide placements for:
- GP registrars – Fully qualified doctors who are undertaking their final stage of specialist training to become independent General Practitioners. They are closely supervised and have regular teaching and review sessions with experienced GPs.
- Foundation year doctors – These doctors are in their first or second year of postgraduate medical training and may be gaining experience in general practice as part of their rotation.
- Medical students – University students studying medicine who join us on placement to observe consultations, learn about patient care, and practice their clinical skills under supervision.
What does this mean for our patients?
- You may be offered an appointment with a resident doctor such as a GP Registrar or FY1/2 doctor. They are fully qualified doctors and are always supervised by a GP within the practice.
- Sometimes, your consultation may be observed by medical students or a resident doctor, and you will informed of this beforehand.
- Occasionally, consultations may be video recorded for educational purposes and destroyed after use. If this is requested, you will be fully informed, and your consent will be required before any recording takes place. You do not have to agree to this, and your care will not be affected in any way if you choose not to take part.
